firstly, the teaserim going on about can be found here.
the last airbender teaser that i have chosen to analyse is around 1 minute and 40 seconds long, and is based around the hit animated TV show. the teaser contains within it a number of aspects of the show and uses these to great effect, showing a rather skeptical audience that the coming film will be as good as everyone hopes it'll be. now, onto the proving of that point.
the basic narrative of the teaser is driven by the voice over, and tells the story of a lone survivor whose destined to save the world despite the evident might and hatred of those who stand before him. there is no subtext. the mise en scene of the clip is that of mountains temples, the sea and basically predominantly that of nature. this shows evidently that the story is not set in morderrn times and carries with it connotations of of mysticism and magic, which fits in with the proposed storyline. this is continued by the costume of the main character. the monk style outfit is an icon in todays culture that runs parralell with action and mystical stuff. the film talks about a number of relatable issues, such as the ideas of morals, or the act of fulfiiling ones destiny. unlike my other two teasers, this one has a sort of political undertone with it. an invading army in a natural setting? is this a comment on modern times, like the cities and rainforest issue? in a word, yes. as mentioned previously, a voice over is used to move the narrative along and inform the audience who the character is. the film is shot in bright vivid color that shows the contrasting aspects of the setting very well, while non diegetic sound is used to show the sheer epicness of the final sight of the teaser. finally, i believe that the ideology that the film maker tries to convey through the teaser is that it is their responsibility to stay as truthful to the source material as possible, which is what they try to do in both the film and the teaser.
