firstly, the teaser i'm going about can be found here.
the da vinci code teaser i have chosen to analyse is around 2 minutes in length and is something of a rareity in the world of teasers that i have stumbled into. this is because it is composed of, in its entirety, footage that is completey absent from the feature film. to put it another way, the teaser was put together before shooting of the film even began. it uses CGI and voice over to great effect, creating a clip that teases it's audience just enough to once again pipe thier interest in the story once again.
to start with, there is a clear narrative within the teaser. this is accomplished largely by the voice over and the inuendo that is derived from this. the treaser is basically saying that there's been a huge conspiracy and that the story of this film will be about uncovering that. due to this and to the nature of the way the teaser has been constructed, there is no sub text in the clip. again, thanks to the way this teaser has been done conventional methods of analysing the mise en scene go out the window. suffice to say, what is seen (like the wrinkled pages and old script, as well as the image of the mona lisa) has connotations of ancient and powerful ideas mixed with potent cultural symbols as represented by the mona lisa. this is all a representation of the questions raised by the film, which is to say that what is considered firm and established history may not nessacairily be correct.
as mentioned before, a voice over is used in this clip. it is important because it is a powerful method for moving the narrative along. there are no stars visualy shown in the clip, but thier naes are presented as on screen print at the end in order to entise the audience with the powerful cast. the clip is shown in with a very dark color pallet, made of mostly dark browns, blacks and ageded whites. it is almost likes the films of the olden times, thus reinforcing the connotation of age. a piece of non diegetic sound is used through out the clip, and is used to create an atmospheric tension and to reinforce the sense of mystery, history and conspiracy. finally, the teaser suggests that the ideology of the film will be based on the idea that the truth is the most important thing and that the uncovering of the truth is something that will be explored in the film.
