dead space downfall is an animated movie brought by the games publisher EA in correspondence with the release of the dead space game and comics. the film acts as prequel to the game, setting up the story and establishing the characters and environment. whilst it isn't necessary to see the film before playing the game it is recomended as it prepares the player for the horrors of the game.
the story of downfall follows the security force of a deep space mining ship. when said ship discovers a strange alien artifacte, said to be proof of the exsistence of god, they make the fatal desicion to bring it abord. soon after this strange and horrific events begin to take hold of the ship, as the crew starts to fall prey to terrifying creatures that dont just kill you, but make you part of them. as the entire vessel becomes desolet the last of the secrutiy force sacrafices her own life in a futile gesture that goes unheard by the incoming enginers, thus setting up the story for the game.
dead space was really helpfull for me. it uses the beginning is the end method, where the audience see a section from the end of the film before seeing the rest of the picture. the clip i watched was almost entirely done in a medium close up, with some wide and medium shots thrown in to show some examples of the aforementioned horror. the animation is done in the japanese manga style and is perfectly used to show all the elements of the film, from the death scenes to the emotion of the characters. downfall has been useful to me as it showcased one of two methods that i am considering using for my own thing. it also helped in showing how to create an atmosphere.
