seeing as ths is what i am to create, this is as good as place as any to start. so a teaser trailer, what excatly is it? everyone thinks they know and we all have a general idea from which we draw our own conclusions. but for sake of argument, here's what 'audience alliance' defines a teaser trailer as : 'a short film trailer that is generally released many months before a movie is actually released, to give a breif peek at what the movie will be like, and to build audience anticipation.'
so basically, this means a teaser trailer is short, with only brief glances as to the actual content of the film, and reveals little of the plot. now from what i've learnt from class and my own experience, i can add my own logic to this. basically a teaser trailer is a very short clip, usally between 30 to 60 seconds in length. on some occassions, the footage in the clip is not actually present in the film itself. this is because often when the teaser is released the film itself is still in stages of production, meaning true footage is either unavalible or the desicion has been made not to use actual footage. as stated before, the teaser rarely reveals anything of the plot of the film, acting instead as a means of 'wetting the appetite' of the audience, doing so by showing stuff that will get the target audience excited like 'bankable' stars of memorable scenes. also, the teaser is used as a sort of preempitive marketing attack, used in preparation for the full scale marketing campagin that is to come in the time closer to the release of the film.
other then that, theres not much else i can really say, so erm, i'll get going.

I would say that is a fairly spot on understanding of a teaser trailer, Stuart - glad someone listens!
